Position Overview:

This role is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) opportunity aimed at attracting qualified individuals to join the Department of Defense Workforce in competitive service roles.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and manage applicants' medical documentation throughout the evaluation process.
  • Coordinate medical consultations, ensuring the verification of physician orders.
  • Facilitate the in-processing of applicants, confirming identities through previously collected biometric data (including digital fingerprints and photographs).
  • Assist applicants in completing various forms necessary for their medical evaluations.
  • Conduct phlebotomy procedures to collect blood samples as required.
  • Review specialized medical forms for accuracy, proper coding, and completion.
  • Maintain logs and records, including control logs, custody logs, and treatment center referral lists, in compliance with established regulations and policies.
  • Monitor inventory levels of medical supplies and ensure timely restocking.
  • Adhere to safety protocols for the handling, storage, and disposal of medical instruments and materials.
  • Deliver standardized medical orientation briefings to applicants.
  • Prepare and dispatch specimen packages to designated testing laboratories.
Employment Conditions:

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must be U.S. Citizens. To qualify, candidates must meet the educational and/or experiential requirements outlined below:

Specialized Experience for GS-06:

One year of experience that includes:

  • Assisting with physical examinations (e.g., optical, audiometric tests, electrocardiograms, and/or urine collection/processing).
  • Performing phlebotomy to obtain blood samples.
  • Operating medical devices (e.g., audiometers, vision testers, and/or centrifuges) for various medical assessments.
  • Documenting patients' medical histories and information.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education Substitution:

Successful completion of at least one-half year (9 semester hours) of progressively higher-level graduate education in a field directly related to the position, such as Medical Technology/Technician, Medical Assistant, Nursing, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, or a related field may qualify candidates.

Combination of Experience and Education:

Candidates with partial experience or education may still qualify by combining their creditable experience and education. To compute the percentage, divide total months of qualifying experience by 12 and divide semester hours of graduate education by 9. The total must equal at least 100% to qualify.

Foreign Education:

If utilizing foreign education to meet qualification requirements, candidates must provide evidence that their education credentials have been evaluated by a recognized organization specializing in the interpretation of foreign education programs.

Additional Information:

Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required. A one-year trial/probationary period may be necessary. Direct Deposit of Pay is mandatory. This position is part of the Medical Career Field, and multiple positions may be filled from this announcement.
