Bellevue, Washington, United States Amazon Full time

Job Overview:

Amazon's Last Mile Team is seeking a dedicated professional with exceptional analytical and optimization capabilities to become a vital member of its Last Mile Science division. This team is committed to enhancing and refining the intricate planning processes involved in the world's most sophisticated delivery network.

The Last Mile initiative develops comprehensive solutions that empower Amazon to secure a flexible supply of drivers, companies, and resources necessary for delivering both Amazon's and other clients' shipments efficiently and cost-effectively, while ensuring an outstanding customer delivery experience.

The Last Mile Science team is responsible for the foundational decision-making models related to jurisdiction planning, delivery channel and mode design, capacity management for both on-road and delivery stations, as well as routing input estimation and optimization.

Our research directly influences customer satisfaction, the experiences of drivers and station associates, the success of Delivery Service Partners (DSPs), and the sustainable growth trajectory of Amazon.

Enhancing last mile delivery necessitates a profound understanding of transportation dynamics, supply chain management, pricing strategies, and forecasting methodologies. Through innovative and strategic thought processes, we aim to make informed capital investments in technology, assets, and infrastructure that will support long-term success.

Key Responsibilities:
Candidates will be tasked with developing innovative solutions to enhance the management and optimization of delivery capacity within the last mile network.

The ideal candidate will possess substantial research experience in one or more technical domains such as Operations Research or Machine Learning.

This role will concentrate on identifying and evaluating opportunities to refine existing algorithms and optimizing system policies governing both external delivery service providers and internal planning strategies.

We seek logical thinkers capable of swiftly tackling large, ambiguous challenges, translating high-level business requirements into mathematical models, determining appropriate solution methodologies, and contributing to the software development of production systems.

To substantiate their proposals, candidates should be adept at independently mining and analyzing data, utilizing any necessary programming and statistical analysis tools.

Successful candidates will thrive in dynamic environments that promote collaborative and creative problem-solving, possess the ability to assess and estimate risks, provide constructive critiques of peer research, and align their research objectives with Amazon's strategic priorities.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
3+ years of experience in building models for business applications
PhD or Master's degree with 4+ years of experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related field
Experience with patents or publications in top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, or similar
Familiarity with algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, and high-performance computing
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with Unix/Linux environments
Background in professional software development
