Position: Maintenance Technician

Reports to: Director of Maintenance

Location: Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth

General Position Summary: The Maintenance Technician is accountable for ensuring the upkeep, cleanliness, and repair of facilities associated with the parish and educational institutions. This role encompasses a variety of maintenance tasks and equipment servicing duties. Responsibilities may include performing routine maintenance and repairs, such as basic carpentry and plumbing, depending on skill level and team requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with various installation, repair, and renovation projects, including electrical fixtures and semi-skilled construction tasks.
  • Conduct installation, repair, and refurbishment of equipment, including both metal and wooden items, electrical appliances, and plumbing fixtures.
  • Facilitate the movement and transportation of furniture and miscellaneous items within the facilities.
  • Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and mechanical equipment as required.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs of work orders and reports detailing time and materials utilized for projects.
  • Oversee the care of all tools, vehicles, and equipment used in maintenance tasks.
  • Execute painting and touch-up work to complete repairs effectively.
  • Replace defective motors and valves as necessary.
  • Clear snow and ice from walkways and parking areas to ensure safety.

Decision-Making Responsibilities:

  • Assess whether a project should be managed by an external vendor or handled internally.
  • Advise on the acquisition or rental of essential equipment needed for specific tasks.
  • Evaluate if a project can be completed by a single technician or requires a team effort.

Supervision:

  • This position operates under the direct supervision of the Department Director.

Working Conditions:

  • This role is primarily based in a maintenance shop but involves outdoor work under varying weather conditions.
  • Physical demands include frequent sitting, bending, kneeling, and lifting, with the ability to lift up to 20 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Travel Requirements:

  • Minimal travel is expected, approximately 1-3 times annually.

Education and Experience:

  • A high school diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • Experience ranging from one to three years is required, with four to seven years preferred.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Capability to perform minor repairs and assist in planning for larger maintenance projects.
  • Collaborate with staff to identify ongoing maintenance needs and preventative measures.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Familiarity with cleaning equipment and safe handling of supplies.
