General Position Summary: This role is essential for ensuring the upkeep, cleanliness, and repair of facilities associated with the parish and educational institutions. The Maintenance Technician is tasked with a range of duties related to facility and equipment maintenance. Responsibilities may include various routine maintenance and repair tasks, including basic carpentry and plumbing, depending on skill level and team requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with a variety of installations, repairs, and renovations of buildings, including electrical fixtures and semi-skilled construction tasks.
  • Handle the installation, repair, and renovation of equipment such as metal and wooden structures, electrical appliances, and plumbing fixtures.
  • Facilitate the movement and transportation of furniture and other items across facilities.
  • Conduct routine maintenance on vehicles and mechanical equipment.
  • Maintain daily logs of work orders and reports detailing time and materials used for tasks.
  • Oversee the care of tools, vehicles, and other maintenance equipment.
  • Perform painting and surface repairs as needed.
  • Replace defective motors and valves as part of maintenance duties.
  • Clear snow and ice from pathways and parking areas.

Decision-Making Responsibilities:

  • Assess whether a project should be completed by an external vendor or in-house staff.
  • Recommend the acquisition or rental of essential equipment for project completion.
  • Evaluate if a project can be managed by a single technician or requires additional team members.

Supervision:

  • This position operates under the direct supervision of the Department Director.

Working Conditions:

  • Physical requirements include frequent sitting, bending, lifting, and climbing, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Travel Requirements:

  • Minimal travel is expected, typically 1-3 times annually.

Education and Experience:

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Experience of 1-3 years is necessary, with 4-7 years preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Capability to perform minor repairs and assist in planning major maintenance projects.
  • Collaborate with staff to identify ongoing maintenance needs and preventative measures.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Familiarity with cleaning equipment and safe usage practices.

FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt
