Job Title:

The Security Manager is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the Fernbank Campus, including the museum, WildWoods, and Fernbank Forest.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement safety and security procedures and policies to ensure a safe environment for employees, volunteers, and patrons.
  • Oversee security operations, including equipment and personnel.
  • Evaluate, develop, and write security procedures and practices in conjunction with the Registrar/Collections Manager.
  • Develop and present new methods for security operational improvement.
  • Prepare periodic budget estimates and reports.
  • Order supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Review financial reports to ensure security operational efficiency and quality control.
  • Develop and administer preventative safety and security programs.
  • Conduct audits of security-related performance and physical surveys of premise security.
  • Assist in development and implementation of security training for security and Fernbank staff.
  • Assist in maintenance of the Museum's disaster preparedness, response, and recovery plan.
  • Serve as Fernbank's liaison with public law enforcement, fire, and other agencies as it relates to security.
  • Manage staff of FT and PT security officers, including work assignments and schedules.
  • Supervise key control and maintain key inventory.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, criminal justice, law enforcement, security, or a related field, or equivalent number of years of experience.
  • 3-5 years full-time experience, including managerial experience, or highly responsible work relating to tasks assigned to this position.
Essentials and Attributes:
  • Ability to work late and irregular hours, including evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
  • Exceptional communication, customer service, and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects.
  • Computer proficiency with MS Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Proven ability to deal effectively with the public in emergency situations and to apply these practices to a private organization.
  • Ability to physically patrol property in all weather conditions as necessary and to respond to situations in a timely, professional, and appropriate manner.
  • Team player who works well with other departments in a collaborative work environment.
