Position Overview

As a Retail Sales Associate, also referred to as a Generalist colleague, you play a crucial role in delivering the Macy's experience, with the Macy's shopper being your top priority. Your keen awareness of customer preferences and the knowledge you acquire about Macy's products and services will enable you to create outstanding experiences for every customer you meet. By assisting your team in achieving sales targets through consistently excellent service, your positive and welcoming demeanor will resonate throughout your area. From the sales floor to fitting rooms and product displays, you will be part of a dynamic, inclusive team that embraces every challenge.

Key Responsibilities
  • Welcome and engage with customers in a friendly and sincere manner, demonstrating appreciation for their presence and care for their experience.
  • Suggest products by asking questions to identify customer needs and inspiring purchases with new and relevant items.
  • Provide options and solutions to customers to finalize sales.
  • Conclude the shopping experience by celebrating customer purchases and sharing in their excitement.
  • Master the store's products, services, loyalty programs, and sales systems to assist customers in finding what they need and recommending additional items.
  • Maintain department recovery standards, including the sales floor and fitting rooms.
  • Ensure optimal merchandise presentation, accurate pricing, and timely markdown processing.
Essential Skills
  • Product Knowledge: Strong understanding of the products being sold, providing expert guidance based on customer preferences and features.
  • Communication: Comfortable interacting with customers through various channels, including virtually, by phone, and in person.
  • Sales: Ability to build relationships with customers, meet sales objectives, and engage in pre-selling and sales-enhancing activities.
  • Technology: Proficient in utilizing point-of-sale technology and applications to facilitate sales and fulfill customer orders.
  • Continuous Learning: Self-motivated to stay updated on product knowledge and trends, engaging with Macy's educational resources.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal abilities, capable of working effectively with colleagues across all levels and departments.
  • Collaboration: Working in partnership with the entire team to drive sales and enhance the customer experience.

  • Must be able to (1) understand and communicate effectively with customers, colleagues, and supervisors, and (2) read and comprehend employment policies and safety regulations in English.
  • No formal education or prior experience required.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods (at least two consecutive hours) of standing and walking throughout the store or department.
  • Frequent use of computers and handheld electronic devices.
  • Tasks may include reaching, crouching, kneeling, and color vision.
  • This role involves lifting, moving, standing, reaching with arms and hands, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.
  • Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 30 lbs.
