Job Title: Actuary 2

We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified Actuary 2 to join our team in the Office of the Insurance Commissioner's (OIC) P&C Actuarial Services Unit.

Job Summary:

The Actuary 2 position contributes to OIC goals of protecting consumers, maintaining a healthy insurance climate, and improving customer service by reviewing property and casualty rate filings, and performing the actuarial components of property and casualty financial examinations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform independent analyses to determine whether company rate requests are justified.
  • Evaluate reasonableness of insurers' data and actuarial methods.
  • Analyze data on losses, loss adjustment expenses, underwriting expenses, and profit provisions.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable statutes and regulations.
  • Communicate results to insurers and when appropriate, to OIC management.
  • Handle filing review in accordance with established OIC procedures.
Requirements:
  • Eight (8) years or more of property casualty actuarial experience.
  • An associate degree and six (6) years of property casualty actuarial experience.
  • A bachelor's degree and four (4) years of property casualty actuarial experience.
  • A master's degree and two (2) years of property casualty actuarial experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
  • Experience working with insurance regulatory issues and requirements.
  • Experience with predictive modeling, such as GLMs and tree-based models.
  • Intermediate or higher skill level in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
