Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Maintenance Mechanic 2 to join our team at the Department of Corrections. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of skilled work in maintenance, repair, and construction of buildings, grounds, machinery, and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform skilled work in a number of trades fields, including carpentry, HVAC, masonry, and painting.
  • Maintain, construct, alter, and repair building structures, including concrete/masonry, painting, doors, walls, windows, drains, flooring, kitchen equipment, keys and locksets, boilers, plumbing, furniture, cabinets, HVAC and refrigeration systems, vehicles, and facility grounds.
  • Coordinate projects with the Construction and Maintenance Project Supervisor and/or other facility staff.
  • Maintain a janitorial program, including garbage and recycling, waxing, to ensure the facility meets standards.
  • Initiate requests for materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Estimate, plan, and order inventory, parts, and supplies needed for projects and routine tasks.
  • Consult with supervisors, vendors, and/or others as required.
  • Provide oversight, direction, and guidance to assigned individuals performing light facility maintenance duties.
  • Hold assigned individuals accountable as necessary.
  • Complete assigned work orders and projects.
  • Manage the use of hand and power tools, paints, caulks, sealants, personal protective equipment, and all other equipment used by individuals in the performance of their assigned duties.
  • Responsible for monthly safety and sanitization equipment inspections, correcting any deficiencies, and reporting hazards and/or non-functioning safety equipment.
  • Participate in monthly and quarterly safety meetings.
  • Follow safety and security procedures, comply with DOC Policy Directives, RRC Operational Memorandums, building and mechanical codes, L&I laws, EPA regulations, and all other applicable regulations and codes.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Maintain accurate records and documents for MSDS, FCTM, tool control, key control, work order completion, material use and requisition, equipment requisition, and other required record keeping needed to conform to these regulations.
  • Monitor safety, fire protection, and environmental control equipment to ensure building systems and equipment are operating in a satisfactory condition; respond to service requests and secure necessary assistance; take preventative and emergency action to control malfunctions.
Requirements
  • Valid WA State Driver's License
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 4 years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work, or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanic trade
Working Conditions

This position may be represented by a Union Shop. The successful candidate may be required to provide valid proof of a baseline TB skin test within 60 days from the date of hire. When positive tests result, further information, testing, and treatment may also be required. Employment is not contingent upon test results.
