Additionally, Delta Star offers comprehensive engineering, testing, maintenance services, and parts for any transformer manufacturer through our Field Service business unit, ensuring optimal performance of our customers' transformers and mobile units.
Position Type
This is a full-time, salaried, onsite position.
Role Purpose
The Mobile Substation Technical Services Engineers serve as a vital customer-facing resource for Delta Star, focusing on our flagship mobile substations and engineered services. These engineers must possess a diverse skill set, demonstrating technical proficiency across various power technologies while also exhibiting strong interpersonal skills to engage effectively with customers at all levels. A willingness to travel and adapt to non-standard work hours is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive mobile substation configuration, setup, testing, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
- Facilitate customer commissioning, training, and energization both in the factory and in the field.
- Collaborate with engineering teams and customers on all aspects of mobile substations.
- Coordinate with Engineering and Manufacturing to address customer requests and modifications during the commissioning process.

Levels of Expertise
Level I - Trainee
- New to mobile substations.
- Basic understanding of power, control systems, and electro-mechanical devices.
- Foundational skills in testing, configuring, and troubleshooting controls and electro-mechanical devices.
- Primary tasks involve daily mobile substation control testing and troubleshooting.
- Ability to communicate issues encountered during control testing.
Level II
- Capable of basic configuration and testing of mobile substation control circuits.
- Able to interface with customers, demonstrating technical competency and basic product knowledge.
- Assists senior engineers with customer commissioning and training.
- Possesses a fundamental understanding of mobile substations and related control systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic issues during control testing.
Level III
- Experienced in performing full mobile commissioning and training independently.
- Ability to troubleshoot most issues during testing and commissioning.
- Well-versed in all mobile control and electromechanical systems.
- Capable of discussing basic mobile mechanical aspects, including trailers, hydraulics, switchgear mechanisms, coolers, and pumps.
Level IV
- Technically proficient in all mechanical and electro-mechanical mobile substation devices.
- Able to set up, configure, test, diagnose, and commission mobile substation mechanical devices.
- Ability to troubleshoot nearly all issues during testing and commissioning.
- Capable of training and supporting customers in the mechanical aspects of mobile substations.
- Assists in assessing and proposing work scope for mobile repair opportunities.
- Supports the dispatch and energization of mobile substations.
- Knowledgeable about mobile substation applications and maintenance.
Level V - Principal Engineer
- Fully competent in testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of power transformers associated with mobile substations.
- Supports customers in the application, dispatch, and energization of mobile substations independently.
- Well-versed in mobile applications, educating and assisting customers in mobile substation uses.
- Assists in specification development for new mobile substations.
- Knowledgeable in supporting customer maintenance of mobile substations.
- Conducts assessments and proposals for mobile repair opportunities independently.
- Acts as the primary contact for unresolved troubleshooting issues.
Education and Experience
- A minimum of an Electrical Engineering Degree or related field.
- Advancement through each level will be assessed based on individual performance at the discretion of Delta Star management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude.
- Understanding of substation protection schemes and associated devices.
- Familiarity with mobile trailer setup and ancillary components.
- Professional demeanor and ability to represent Delta Star positively to customers and suppliers.
- Attention to detail and strong reporting skills.
- Good memory, as much of the technology is not documented.
- Strong presentation and public speaking abilities.

Travel Requirements
Travel is required for at least one week per month to customer sites for training and commissioning.
