SOFTWARE ENGINEER

Neptune and Company, Inc. is on the lookout for a skilled software engineer with a diverse technological background to become a vital part of our team. In this role, you will tackle challenging projects alongside a multidisciplinary team of scientists and software engineers, working to resolve significant problems across various applications. A substantial portion of our work focuses on environmental remediation, including contaminated site assessments and human health and ecological risk evaluations.

Key Responsibilities and Attributes

  • Collaborate with scientists, statisticians, and software developers to determine functional requirements and design software solutions
  • Engage in full stack development utilizing both JavaScript and Python technologies
  • Work with a variety of web technologies, including React, Redux, ExtJS, Node, Flask, and Django
  • Design RESTful APIs to connect data sources with user interfaces
  • Utilize various database technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, and CouchDB/PouchDB
  • Continuously learn new software and web technologies
  • Exhibit intellectual curiosity and pose critical questions
  • Demonstrate thoughtfulness and precision in software design and implementation

Educational Background

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Experience

  • Proficient programming experience in JavaScript, Python, or similar languages
  • Familiarity with front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, utilizing frameworks like React and Svelte
  • Experience with back-end technologies, including Node, Express, and Hapi
  • Knowledge of both SQL and NoSQL database systems
  • Experience with Linux systems and command-line interfaces
  • Understanding of Agile software development methodologies and best practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud technologies related to authentication, automated payments, and software deployment
  • Interest in environmental science
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Git
