Tenured Professor and Chair of Chemical Engineering

The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Virginia is seeking a visionary leader to serve as the next Department Chair. As a tenured professor, you will have the opportunity to lead the department's initiatives in strategic planning, faculty and staff development, and attracting and recruiting the next generation of department, school, and university faculty leaders.
The successful candidate will have a strong track record of research and teaching, as well as experience in management, administration, and outreach. They will be responsible for providing leadership in the development and implementation of department plans and policies, working closely with faculty and staff to improve the quality of undergraduate and graduate degrees, and representing the department's constituents and programs.
The ideal candidate will be a collaborative leader who can foster excellence in teaching, scholarship, and outreach, and ensure the department's continued growth and success. They will also be responsible for managing the department's budget, interfacing with school and university leadership, and serving as a contributing member of the School's leadership team.
About the DepartmentThe Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Virginia is a thriving program with a commitment to exploration, innovation, and engineering excellence. The department offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in chemical engineering, with a focus on cutting-edge research in areas such as catalysis, reaction engineering, and biotechnology.
The department is home to 25 faculty members and 2 courtesy appointments, serving approximately 90 graduate students and 140 undergraduate students. The research portfolio in the department is supported by over $5 million per year from industry, federal agencies, and private foundations.

QualificationsQualified candidates must hold a PhD in chemical engineering or a closely related field and demonstrate sufficient accomplishments for appointment as a tenured faculty member at the full professor level. They should have a strong track record of research and teaching, as well as experience in management, administration, and outreach.
