Job Opportunity in Civil and Environmental Engineering

The School of Engineering & Applied Science at the University of Virginia seeks a candidate for an open rank tenure-eligible or tenured position in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the department's research, teaching, and service activities.

Research Focus

The department has academic programming and research strengths in core civil and environmental areas such as transportation, environmental, water resources, structural, and construction engineering. The successful candidate is expected to have methodological expertise in data science, artificial intelligence/machine learning, agent-based modeling, and/or stochastic modeling, applying such tools to improve civil infrastructure systems.

Teaching and Mentoring

The candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in civil and environmental engineering, and to mentor students in research projects. The department values diversity and inclusion, and the successful candidate is expected to contribute to fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Service and Community Engagement

The candidate will be expected to participate in departmental and university service activities, and to engage with the local community through research and outreach activities.

Qualifications

Candidates must have received a doctorate or equivalent in civil or environmental engineering by the start of their appointment. Evidence of a commitment to high-impact scholarship, funded research, undergraduate- and graduate-level teaching and advising excellence, professional and university service, and mentoring are expected.
