The role of the Patent and Trademark Attorney is crucial in shaping and overseeing the intellectual property assets of Power Integrations, Inc.

This position demands a solid foundation in electrical engineering principles combined with expertise in the patent and trademark landscape to generate superior patent applications and trademarks, as well as to provide strategic insights for business decisions. A background in electrical engineering is essential, and familiarity with analog circuits and switched-mode power supply technology is advantageous. Exceptional writing and editing skills in English are imperative.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Draft and prosecute domestic patent applications, collaborating directly with the USPTO or external counsel.
  2. Manage the drafting and prosecution of international patent applications in conjunction with outside legal advisors.
  3. Formulate claims for both offensive and defensive patent strategies.
  4. Identify innovative technologies suitable for patent protection through collaboration with integrated circuit designers and applications engineers.
  5. Coordinate with paralegals and administrative personnel to submit patent and trademark applications and requisite documentation to the USPTO.
  6. Evaluate the patent and trademark portfolio to assess advantages and costs, presenting findings to senior management.
  7. Conduct trademark clearance searches and analyses across domestic and international databases.
  8. Prepare, file, and prosecute U.S. trademark applications while managing renewals directly with the USPTO.
  9. Organize and oversee foreign trademark applications and maintain registrations in partnership with legal counsel.
  10. Lead brand protection initiatives and work with internal teams to ensure compliance with brand standards and trademark usage.
  11. Draft and review legal documents such as Demand letters, Cease and Desist letters, and amicable agreements.

Qualifications:

  1. J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to the California state bar.
  2. Registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
  3. B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in electrical engineering or a related technical discipline, demonstrating proficiency in analog electronic circuit theory and application.
  4. A minimum of 5 years of experience in patent and trademark prosecution.
  5. Advanced technical writing and editing capabilities, showcasing a strong command of the English language.
  6. Experience in drafting patent applications is preferred, along with any relevant experience in writing and editing for technical publications.
  7. Proficient in software tools such as Visio, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for document preparation that includes drawings, images, and text.
  8. Familiarity with Patent Center and electronic docketing systems, such as Foundation IP, is a valuable asset.
  9. Experience in constructing and evaluating circuits in a laboratory setting is desirable.
  10. Knowledge of off-line switched mode power supply design or experience with high voltage semiconductor device fabrication is a plus.

Compensation:

Power Integrations is dedicated to fostering innovative teams and considers various factors when establishing compensation. The annual base salary range for this position is $133,472 - $200,456, influenced by role, level, qualifications, and work location.

This salary range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hires in California. Individual compensation within this range is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
