The Chesapeake Bay Foundation is seeking a dedicated Land Stewardship Coordinator to join our Environmental Protection and Restoration Department. This role is essential for supporting our Maryland land stewardship initiatives and native tree nursery operations.
About the Chesapeake Bay FoundationFounded in 1966, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) stands as the largest regional nonprofit organization committed to conserving the Chesapeake Bay and its surrounding ecosystems. Our mission encompasses education, advocacy, litigation, and restoration efforts aimed at safeguarding the Bay's natural resources.
CBF has made significant strides since 2010 in implementing the Chesapeake Clean Water Blueprint, a collaborative agreement focused on reducing pollution levels as mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Achieving the goals set forth in this Blueprint is crucial for the Bay's health and will require a robust network of informed and engaged citizens.
Department OverviewThe Environmental Protection and Restoration Department plays a pivotal role in defending and restoring the Chesapeake Bay by advocating for strong environmental regulations, restoring vital habitats, and engaging the community in stewardship activities.
Position ContextThe Land Stewardship Coordinator will be instrumental in enhancing CBF's restoration efforts through effective partnerships and project facilitation. Key responsibilities include:
- Native Tree Nursery Management: Oversee the operations of Clagett Farm's native tree nursery, including maintenance tasks such as potting, weeding, and watering. Lead volunteer events, manage inventory, and handle sales requests.
- Event Coordination: Manage logistics for the Maryland land restoration program, including scheduling, registration, and volunteer coordination during events.
- Data Management: Maintain accurate records of volunteer and restoration activities, collaborating with the GIS Department to ensure data integrity.
- Partnership Development: Cultivate relationships with restoration partners to facilitate tree planting and land restoration projects across Maryland.
- Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned to support CBF's mission.
Applicants should possess the physical capability to lift and carry at least 45 pounds and work outdoors in various weather conditions. A valid driver's license is required, along with the ability to operate a full-sized truck with a trailer. Flexibility in work hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, is necessary.
This position will involve working at multiple locations, aligning with the seasonal demands of the growing and planting cycles.
