Optimus, a leader in power generation, is seeking a Energy Market Analyst to perform comprehensive evaluations of asset optimization across their diverse portfolio.

To qualify for this role, candidates should possess substantial experience in the energy sector, demonstrate advanced proficiency in Excel, and have a robust understanding of power markets and their key drivers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough analyses of power markets, including but not limited to: PJM, NYISO, ISONE, MISO, among others, to enhance portfolio performance.
  • Deliver monthly presentations of commercial and operational data to management, or as required.
  • Provide daily updates on power plant operations.
  • Maintain and enhance the analytical tools utilized by the Commercial Asset Management team.
  • Offer insightful market analysis to inform hedge strategy decisions.
  • Assist in the onboarding of new projects.
  • Update and manage financial and dispatch models for active projects.
  • Regularly validate and assess modeling techniques through back-testing and alternative methods.
  • Execute scenario analyses using existing and self-developed models to ensure informed decision-making.
  • Effectively communicate market and project analyses during project team meetings, representing the Commercial Department.
  • Develop models, tools, processes, and infrastructure that enhance the organization’s accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Collaborate with various departments to keep financial models current.
  • Continuously seek process improvement opportunities and foster relationships with other teams.
  • Assist in preparing presentations for senior management to support strategic initiatives within the asset portfolio.
  • Adhere to all applicable state, federal, and local regulations, as well as ISO procedures and jurisdictions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related discipline. (Degrees in Engineering, Mathematics, Science, or other quantitative fields with business or finance experience are also acceptable) – MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the energy or infrastructure sectors, specifically in project finance or fund administration roles.
  • Proficiency in modeling project finance transactions within the power generation industry.
  • Experience with Financial Engineering Associates (FEA) software.
  • Expertise in databases, particularly in Excel.
  • In-depth knowledge of power markets and their fundamental drivers.
  • Strong understanding of LMP-based Wholesale Power Markets.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and strategic thinking skills.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation capabilities.
