Position Overview:

The Lead Analyst for Energy Risk Assessment plays a pivotal role in evaluating financial and credit risks tied to energy trading and marketing endeavors, encompassing retail operations. This position involves recognizing and analyzing potential risks, crafting and executing quantitative models, and overseeing and reporting on risk exposures. Additionally, the role may entail the creation, implementation, and upkeep of risk management instruments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess the financial, credit, and collateral risks of complex integrated energy portfolios under fluctuating market conditions.
  • Conduct financial assessments and modeling to analyze the financial and risk profiles of prospective transactions, along with their credit and collateral ramifications.
  • Facilitate the origination and execution of new business ventures, including highly structured transactions, in a timely manner.
  • Develop algorithms and predictive models to aid risk management decisions, often tailored to various market participant frameworks (e.g., ISOs).
  • Utilize analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and emerging technologies to enhance and automate diverse risk processes.
  • Compile various data sources to establish a centralized perspective for scenario analysis of current assets and potential transactions.
  • Collaborate with senior risk managers to engage with portfolio managers and research analysts on topics such as risk limit utilization, portfolio construction, tail exposure, and forward-looking risk events.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution is mandatory.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the energy electric or gas sector.
  • Familiarity with Stochastic / Monte Carlo methodologies.
  • Strong quantitative abilities, including proficiency in modeling with Python and managing large datasets with intricate data feeds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a mathematics-oriented field (e.g., Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, Finance) is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in data management and analytical tools (e.g., Power BI, SQL) is a significant advantage.
  • Programming expertise in at least one scripting language apart from Python (e.g., VBA, Matlab, R).
  • Understanding of mathematical programming concepts and market risk modeling practices.

Additional Skills and Attributes:

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to produce precise work under rapidly changing priorities.
  • Capable of working independently and managing multiple projects concurrently.
  • Experience with trading and risk management systems such as Aligne, Endur, etc., is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Work Environment:

  • Hybrid work model with three days in the office and two days remote.
  • Collaborative trade floor/open office setting with frequent interaction across teams.
  • Majority of tasks performed on a personal computer in a seated position.
