Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Ultrasound Technologist II to join our team at UNC Health Care. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging department, you will be responsible for operating advanced medical equipment to capture high-quality images and provide critical diagnostic information to our healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assist radiologists in performing invasive diagnostic techniques, such as needle biopsies and guided needle-wire placement exams, while providing training and standardization to residents.
  2. Evaluate patient suitability for procedures, considering factors like medications, patient preparation, and ability to tolerate the procedure.
  3. Perform ultrasound procedures under general or direct supervision, recognizing sonographic characteristics of normal and abnormal tissues, structures, and blood flow.
  4. Analyze sonography findings to ensure comprehensive exams and provide sufficient data for physician interpretation.
  5. Recognize situations requiring direct radiologist observation and image structures while obtaining Doppler signals and recording data.
  6. Communicate results and provide preliminary diagnostic information to radiologists and referring physicians.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Completion of a 12-month Diagnostic Medical Sonography program or equivalent certificate program.
  • RDMS registration with certification in at least one modality specific to the department of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers.
  • Three years of experience as an Ultrasound Technologist, preferably in OB/GYN or Midwifery.
  • Ability to complete departmental-specific Sonographer competencies within 12 months and maintain Ultrasound Technologist II certification.
