Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Surgical Technologist II to join our team at the Rex Surgery Center of Cary. As a Surgical Technologist II, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our operating rooms and ambulatory surgical setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain a sterile field and ensure the team maintains a sterile environment.
  • Demonstrate and practice good understanding of sterile technique and have advanced knowledge of instrumentation.
  • Prepare the operating room with appropriate instrumentation, equipment, and supplies.
  • Perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts in a safe and accurate manner according to established policy.
  • Maintain technical skills to serve a patient population composed of infancy to geriatric clients.
  • Adhere to standards including but not limited to ASC policies and procedures, regulatory standards, and patient safety goals.
  • Assume responsibility for self and ensure that the policies, procedures, and safety practices of the Operating Room and ASC are reinforced.
  • Achieve target of room readiness on a consistent basis.
  • Serve as a role model to new employees and other staff members. Serve as a resource and preceptor to less experienced Surgical Techs.
  • Establish and maintain a sterile field and assure team maintains sterile environment independently. Anticipate the needs of the surgical team. Apply advanced knowledge of instrumentation for multispecialty cases.
  • Demonstrate appropriate and correct case preparation. Competent at unit level. Correct deficiencies at the case level. Communicate effectively with patients, staff members, and physicians.
  • Assist in Sterile Processing as needed to sterilize and package surgical instrument trays.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED or Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology or Nursing program or Graduate of a Military Training Program in Surgical Technology.
  • Formal education/training may be substituted for individuals with 5+ years of experience as a surgical tech.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Minimum of 3 years OR experience required.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or Tech in Surgery (TS-C) through The National Center of Competency Testing preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities:

  • Successful completion of service specific portion of the UNC Health Surgical Technologist competencies.
  • Strong communication skills/customer service relations.
  • Excellent organizational/priority setting skill.
  • Ability to function effectively as a mentor & team player.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of anatomy relating to the surgical procedure and the instrumentation required in order to effectively anticipate the needs of the surgeon.
  • Ability to set priorities and respond appropriately to actual and/or potential life-threatening situations.

Work Details:

This is a per diem position with a standard hours per week of 0.10. The salary range is $32.27 per hour (hiring range). Pay offers are determined by experience and internal equity. This position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System. This is not a State employed position.
