Job Summary:

The Clinical Laboratory Technician will collaborate with Technologists to facilitate the preparation, examination, and evaluation of laboratory samples and specimens. This role involves technical laboratory support tasks such as conducting laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiological, hematological, and blood banking) and generating reports of findings. Responsibilities also include operating specialized medical equipment and performing clerical duties, which encompass typing blood bank records and patient requisition data using a computer terminal, retrieving test data, and managing communications electronically. The technician will process specimens for analysis, including microbiological samples (parasitology, mycology, mycobacterium, bacteriological examinations) and biological fluids (blood, urine, sputum, bone marrow, etc.). Additionally, the technician will perform phlebotomy through venipuncture or capillary puncture, assist patients with specimen collection procedures, and enter patient demographic data and requested tests electronically. The technician will serve as a control point official and provide budget plan input to leadership, along with performing other necessary duties.

Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of 1 year of specialized experience is required.
  • Histology Technicians (HTs) must demonstrate proficiency in the skills necessary to meet the requirements, including fluency in English.
  • Contract personnel are expected to adhere to the Facility's Medical Staff By-Laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Relevant experience includes: (a) Technical laboratory support work such as conducting laboratory tests and examinations and preparing reports of findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, such as biological laboratory technician work.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer.
  • Must be capable of lifting, pulling, or pushing up to 35 pounds.
  • Legible handwriting is essential.
  • Must be able to work in environments that may include exposure to fumes, chemicals, noise, and blood/body fluids.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of an associate degree program, including a training course in a certified laboratory assistant school approved by a recognized accrediting agency.
  • Completion of coursework that includes at least 6 semester hours in chemistry and/or biological sciences.
  • Must possess a current Medical Technologist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist license, with proof required prior to employment.
  • All continuing education courses necessary for maintaining the license must be current.

Training Requirements:

  • All contractor HTs with access to personal health information (PHI) records must complete Information Security, Privacy Policy, and Rules of Behavior Training before their first scheduled day and annually thereafter.

Work Schedule:

  • Standard hours for HTs will be Monday through Friday, 6 AM - 2:30 PM PST.
  • The laboratory operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including Federal Holidays.
