The Desk Clerk provides administrative support to the Residential Services department at Northwestern University. This role involves providing excellent customer service to residents, answering phone calls, greeting visitors, and performing various administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide prompt and courteous customer service to residents and off-campus contacts
  • Answer phone calls, route callers, and take messages
  • Process and distribute packages for special events
  • Field inquiries about mail and other building services
  • Greets visitors, responds to inquiries, and provides routine information
  • Serves as primary contact for area residents during off-cycle check-ins and check-outs
  • Participate in opening and closing procedures
  • Answer basic room availability and contract questions as directed by Residential Services
  • Serves as liaison between residents and maintenance staff
  • Documents and databases
  • Prepares and types form letters, memos, emails, labels, and routine correspondence
  • Enters information into spreadsheets and databases
  • Manage resident room and building access
Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent required
  • 1 year of administrative support or other relevant experience required
  • Basic knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, email, and database software programs required
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to work in a shared workspace
