POSITION SUMMARY
This role is focused on delivering advocacy services to survivors of sexual assault and executing outreach initiatives to elevate awareness regarding sexual violence. A significant emphasis is placed on providing advocacy, facilitating psycho-educational support groups, and conducting community outreach tailored to Spanish-speaking survivors and their communities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Direct Advocacy Services
    a. Deliver crisis intervention and advocacy for adolescent and adult survivors during forensic evidence collection; support survivors and their families throughout their engagement with the criminal justice system.
    b. Offer personal advocacy to survivors and their families.
    c. Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutors, and other service providers within the criminal justice system to assist survivors.
    d. Ensure thorough documentation of all advocacy activities.
  2. Crisis Intervention
    a. Provide information, support, safety planning, and crisis intervention to callers on the 24-hour crisis line during business hours.
    b. Occasionally serve as the on-call staff managing the crisis line and victim advocacy response after hours, while supervising volunteers.
    c. Maintain accurate records of all crisis line interactions.
  3. Support Group Facilitation
    a. Lead a weekly psycho-educational support group for survivors and/or their families.
    b. Document all support group activities appropriately.
  4. Professional and Community Outreach
    a. Engage in outreach and educational activities with partners in the criminal justice system, social service agencies, faith-based organizations, and other relevant entities.
    b. Provide community education on issues related to sexual violence.
    c. Represent MOCSA at various community meetings and events.
    d. Assist in training crisis line and advocacy volunteers, interns, and new staff on relevant procedures as needed.
    e. Ensure proper documentation of all outreach efforts.

The responsibilities outlined represent the core functions of this position. Additional duties may be assigned by the supervisor as required by organizational needs. The incumbent is expected to fulfill all assigned responsibilities. Grant funds are designated solely for approved activities.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements:
Fluency in both written and spoken Spanish is essential. A bachelor's degree in human services, social work, criminal justice, or a related field is required, along with one year of professional experience or a combination of education and experience in victim advocacy or community outreach. Knowledge of sexual or domestic violence advocacy is necessary, along with demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills and strong communication abilities. Access to a computer/tablet and internet from home is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with Spanish-speaking communities and a proven ability to collaborate effectively with community partners, including law enforcement, prosecutors, educational institutions, and other social service providers, is highly desirable. Experience with diverse communities and the capacity to work independently with minimal supervision is also preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is a full-time position with standard business hours from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Flexibility in scheduling and a hybrid work environment may be available. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required based on job responsibilities.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Regular travel within the Kansas City metropolitan area is necessary to provide advocacy and outreach services.
