Position Overview

The Institute for Women's Policy Research (IWPR) is seeking a Head of Media Engagement to spearhead initiatives aimed at enhancing the organization's visibility and reputation among the public, media, and targeted audiences. This role is pivotal within the IWPR Communications team and reports directly to the Vice President of Communications. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in strategic communication planning, collaborating closely with the IWPR Policy and Research teams to promote various projects, campaigns, publications, and events in alignment with overarching communication strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Development

  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Communications and leadership to create comprehensive strategic communication plans that elevate IWPR's brand.
  • Design and implement strategies to enhance the media presence of IWPR's leadership and experts.
  • Identify and explore innovative avenues for promoting IWPR's mission and work.

Media Relations

  • Proactively seek opportunities to showcase IWPR's contributions and research in the media.
  • Monitor current events and news cycles to identify opportunities for IWPR's involvement in public discussions.
  • Work with the communications team to develop clear and impactful messaging for various IWPR initiatives.
  • Foster relationships with journalists, producers, and media influencers to enhance media coverage.
  • Oversee the management of media relations systems, ensuring efficient tracking and reporting of media interactions.

Management

  • Effectively manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure cohesive communication strategies.
  • Coordinate with digital strategy teams to align communication efforts.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in media relations or a related area.
  • Proven track record in developing and executing successful media strategies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically in outreach efforts.
  • Experience with media tracking software is preferred.
  • Commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
