Position Overview

This role is situated within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), specifically in the Fiscal Service. The individual in this position will act as an Accountant, engaging in a comprehensive array of professional accounting tasks that necessitate the application of established accounting principles, theories, and practices.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Duties Include:
  • Examine recorded transactions to ensure accuracy and consistency in accounting practices.
  • Offer accounting guidance and financial services to various levels of management and departmental staff.
  • Facilitate training sessions for accounting personnel and management officials.
  • Engage in collaborative decision-making and provide advice on financial policies and program enhancements.
  • Oversee the maintenance, reconciliation, and auditing of accounts within the general ledger.
  • Identify negative trends and propose corrective measures.
  • Manage the processing and documentation of reconciliations and audits as directed.
Work Schedule: Standard business hours, Monday through Friday.

Telework Options: The agency supports telework arrangements to enhance workforce retention and productivity. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the selection process.

Position Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.
  • Compliance with drug screening and background checks.
  • Registration with Selective Service for applicable candidates.
Qualifications

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field with a minimum of 24 semester hours in accounting courses.

Experience: At least four years of accounting experience or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates professional accounting knowledge.

Specialized Knowledge: Candidates should possess a thorough understanding of budgetary and accounting theories, practices, and techniques necessary for completing diverse accounting assignments.

Skills: Proficiency in accounting software and the ability to analyze complex financial data effectively.
