Position Overview:

The Senior Virtualization Specialist will be responsible for overseeing all facets of VMware virtualization, including the configuration, implementation, and management of servers within a virtualized framework, as well as VDI implementations. A solid foundation in Windows and network management is essential. This role demands a blend of engineering, operational, and hands-on technical support skills. Candidates should possess strong troubleshooting and analytical abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in daily activities to identify and implement technology solutions that align with enterprise needs.
  • Translate functional requirements into technical specifications and pinpoint technologies that fulfill these specifications.
  • Conduct proof of concept initiatives, pilot programs, and demonstrations to assess the viability of various technologies.
  • Analyze trade-offs between competing solutions and develop data-driven assessments of alternatives.
  • Produce comprehensive written analyses and recommendation documents that outline the evaluation process, alternatives considered, criteria for evaluation, and justification for recommendations.

Job Duties:

  • Maintain a hybrid work model with a minimum onsite presence.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call support rotation for server infrastructure.
  • Install and configure vCenter Server and manage ESXi cluster servers.
  • Set up and configure High Availability (HA), vMotion, and Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS).
  • Oversee the configuration of Datacenters, clusters, resource pools, virtual machines, and virtual networking.
  • Monitor the health and performance of virtual machines across various data centers.
  • Manage replication and migration of virtual machines between data centers.
  • Implement disaster recovery strategies for the virtualized environment.
  • Support VMware management tools and VDI solutions.
  • Collaborate with system administrators to troubleshoot VDI and virtual server issues.
  • Maintain and update environmental documentation and standard operating procedures.
  • Work closely with team members to ensure the stability and health of virtualization platforms.
  • Assist in identifying and presenting solution options to meet functional and technical requirements.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot server systems across various operating systems.
  • Perform security hardening, patching, and server certificate updates.
  • Develop documentation for system installation plans and administration guides.
  • Execute additional tasks as directed by lead engineers or project managers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proficient in installing and configuring vCenter Server and managing ESXi cluster servers.
  • Experience in monitoring the health of virtual machines in diverse data center environments.
  • Familiarity with VMware Horizon View, vCenter, vSphere Client, and VMware Workstation.
  • Understanding of VMware's integration with complex storage solutions.
  • Extensive knowledge of multi-vendor server operating systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in enterprise Windows environment operations and maintenance.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Experience in a fast-paced IT service management support environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • VMware certifications (VCP/VCAP) and/or VDI certifications.
  • In-depth knowledge of VMware virtual environments and Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL and optimization of desktop platforms.
  • Familiarity with cloud environments such as AWS and Azure.
  • Scripting experience with PowerShell and VBScript.
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code technologies like Terraform and Ansible.
