The New England College of Optometry (NECO) is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Staff Accountant. Reporting directly to the Assistant Controller, this essential position will collaborate with the Business Office team to ensure that the financial transactions of the College and its affiliate, the NECO Center for Eye Care, are accurately recorded in accordance with GAAP and institutional policies.

The New England College of Optometry is committed to training the next generation of eye care professionals through a comprehensive curriculum and extensive clinical exposure. With a diverse student body of approximately 530 individuals from various states and countries, NECO is a prominent independent graduate institution located in Boston.

Role Overview:
This full-time position will primarily focus on cash receipts and general accounting functions. The Staff Accountant will uphold the integrity of financial data by meticulously recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions. This role will involve close collaboration with the Assistant Controller, the Executive Director of Financial Operations, and other members of the Business Office to manage daily, monthly, and annual financial activities, as well as assist in the financial closing process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cash Receipts Management:
    Process and deposit incoming payments from students, donors, grantors, and other sources. Maintain effective communication with various departments to inform them of received payments and clarify any unexpected transactions. Review daily bank activities to ensure all transactions are appropriate and accurately recorded in the general ledger.

  • General Accounting Duties:
    Prepare, review, and record entries, invoices, and receivables in both general and subsidiary ledgers. Establish new vendors in the ERP system. Investigate and document cash receipts, including tuition payments and donations. Reconcile various general ledger accounts on a monthly basis.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required with a minimum of 1 year of post-degree professional experience in general accounting.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Experience in higher education accounting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with computerized ledger systems.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,000
