DC Public Schools Librarian

The School Librarian position is a critical role within the DC Public Schools system, responsible for providing students with a quality education that prepares them to become future leaders, productive citizens, and individuals who are engaged in the life of the community.
Key Responsibilities- Collection Development and Literacy Specialist: Identify and support the learning and information needs of students and staff, and develop a collection of resources that addresses curricular needs and learning goals.
- Curriculum and Technology Integration Specialist: Collaborate with teachers to use appropriate resources that address curricular needs and learning goals, and leverage district curriculum to support a balanced approach to learning and library programs.
- Instructional Support Specialist: Instruct students and staff in the effective use of the school library, its resources, and current technologies necessary to access resources and information.
- Information Literacy Specialist: Incorporate information literacy into day-to-day instruction, and advocate and promote reading and life-long learning through motivational activities.
- Copyright and Intellectual Freedom Specialist: Adhere to and communicate copyright laws and guidelines pertaining to the distribution and ethical use of all resources, and advocate the principles of intellectual freedom.
- Resource Sharing and Collaboration Specialist: Work cooperatively with other libraries and agencies to share resources that enhance teaching and learning, and provide flexible access to school library resources to accommodate individuals and groups simultaneously.
- Collection Evaluation and Development Specialist: Develop and implement an ongoing collection development and evaluation planning process, that focuses on a variety of formats and resources to meet diverse learning needs.
- Library Budget and Administration Specialist: Prepare budget requests, administer library budgets, and maintain appropriate records, and prepare and submit accurate reports as required.
- Bachelor's degree.
- Masters degree in Library and Information Science, or a Master's degree in Education with evidence of intent to complete required OSSE licensure course.
- Current K-12 School Librarian teaching credential through the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education, or the met the licensure requirements for the Standard School Librarian license.
