The Iowa Organic Association is a leading organization in advancing organic agriculture and food systems in Iowa. Our mission is to provide technical support, educational programs, and resources to promote sustainable farming practices and strengthen community partnerships.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Executive Director to lead our organization and implement policies and programs to carry out our mission. The successful candidate will serve as the chief administrator, providing leadership and direction to our team, and representing the organization to stakeholders and the public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the daily administration of the organization, implementing policies, procedures, and programs, including staff supervision.
  • Draft and implement performance standards, conduct performance reviews, and direct human resources activities.
  • Secure major gifts, develop a communication strategy for reaching and recognizing donors, and identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward potential and current corporate sponsors and organization members.
  • Write grants and oversee grant development to fund programs and activities that meet our mission and strategic plan objectives.
  • Report to the Board of Directors, maintaining open communication and disclosure of the organization's conditions, operations, and needs.
  • Direct or coordinate financial or budget activities, prepare budgets for approval, and manage financial budgets, reports, and summaries.
  • Support and direct public relations activities, develop and implement communications and marketing content, and attend IOA and stakeholder events or programs.
Requirements
  • Must be an Iowa resident.
  • Strong commitment to the mission, philosophy, and vision of the organization.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Google Suite, YouTube, and database management.
  • Excellent professional written and verbal communication skills, strong supervisory and leadership skills, and ability to establish and maintain working relationships with government agencies, community leaders, and the public.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and a valid driver's license.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, and an understanding of organic farming, agriculture, and/or local food systems in Iowa.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working on a farm or with farmers.
  • Three to five years of supervisory and leadership experience in a non-profit setting.
  • Three to five years of experience related to agriculture, local food systems, and organic farming.

  • Work remotely and independently.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Frequent travel across the state of Iowa is required.
  • May be required to work outside, in uncontrolled environments, and exposed to adverse weather conditions.
  • Able to traverse various types of terrain while in the field.
Pay Range and Benefits

$70,000 – $85,000/year commensurate with experience. Benefits include 8 paid holidays, 2 weeks paid time off, remote work setting, and flexible work schedule.
