About the Role

PacifiCorp is seeking a highly skilled Renewable Energy Control Systems Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and direction to ensure the smooth operation of our renewable energy systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Support: Provide technical support for control system administrative functions, including patches, upgrades, and troubleshooting of renewable control systems, PLC control systems, SCADA systems, and electronic control instruments.
  • Programming and Upgrades: Perform and assist in programming and upgrades in the SCADA system(s), improving current processes by auditing current programs and other renewable performance parameters, and positively affecting availability or reliability.
  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Provide technical direction for troubleshooting, calibrating, and maintaining plant control systems, communication equipment, and software.
  • Communication and Problem-Solving: Diagnose OPC communication and control system issues, and implement enhancements or solutions.
  • Project Planning and Execution: Provide technical support for the planning, design, and construction of project additions or maintenance of renewable control systems.
  • Remote Monitoring and Data Collection: Provide technical support for remote equipment monitoring and data collection, including maintaining an accurate alarm management system and data history.
  • Control Equipment Maintenance: Assist in control equipment maintenance, calibration, and control logic diagnosis.
  • Troubleshooting and Electrical/Mechanical Issues: Assist in troubleshooting of electrical, mechanical, and operational issues.
  • Project Management: Provide organization, planning, and control of high-level project assignments, which will routinely involve expenditures of $1 million or more.
  • Complex Problem-Solving: Investigate and solve extremely complex problems relating to renewable units.
  • Technical Knowledge and Business Acumen: Demonstrate advanced technical knowledge and an advanced understanding of the company's business processes.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.
  • Time Management and Accuracy: Perform responsibilities as directed within determined time frames and with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Budgeting and Compliance: Provide accurate input into the budget process and contribute to meeting the actual targets.
  • Confidentiality and Compliance: Maintain sensitive and confidential information regarding company information.
  • Leadership and Direction: Perform work independently and direct the work of renewable engineer I, II, senior engineers, renewable technical specialists, and contractors.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Knowledge: Ensure all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understand and comply with all policies, codes, and regulations applicable to position and company.
Senior Level Responsibilities
  • Technical Expertise: Provide superior technical knowledge and expertise related to renewable units.
  • Professional Development: Maintain the professional competence, knowledge, and skills to effectively complete responsibilities; enhance job knowledge and abilities by taking personal responsibility for professional development and training.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, power plant appropriate science discipline, or business.
  • Experience: Five or more years of experience in PLC programming with hands-on practical experience needed to fully understand the plant processes and ability to make modifications as needed to reduce equipment downtime and minimize costs.
  • Technical Knowledge and Skills: High level of technical knowledge, judgment, and capability in controls and instrumentation.
  • Communication and Problem-Solving: Effective communicator with technical and managerial personnel.
  • Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Analytical Skills: Advanced analytical skills.
  • Project Management Skills: Advanced project management skills.
  • Time Management and Prioritization: Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Technical Tools and Software: Ability to use Microsoft Office tools, Excel, Access, and Word.
Senior Level Requirements
  • Experience: Eight or more years of experience in PLC programming with hands-on practical experience needed to fully understand the plant processes and ability to make modifications as needed to reduce equipment downtime and minimize costs.
