Special Education Support Specialist

Position Overview:
The Special Education Support Specialist plays a crucial role in the educational framework of Springfield Public Schools, ensuring that students with diverse learning needs receive the necessary assistance to thrive academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with a dedicated special education team to facilitate the learning of students with varying degrees of needs;
• Implement tailored academic and behavioral strategies to support individual student success;
• Maintain high expectations for student performance and behavior;
• Guide students in mastering state and local educational standards;
• Conduct individualized and small group instructional sessions to enhance learning outcomes;
• Foster effective communication with students, families, and educational staff.

• A high standard for student conduct and academic expectations;
• A proactive approach to setting and achieving ambitious educational goals;
• Ability to adapt in a dynamic educational environment while maintaining composure;
• Demonstrated history of academic success and achievement;
• Excellent communication skills, including proficiency in public speaking;
• A humble attitude towards personal and professional accomplishments;
• Dedication to enhancing the educational experiences of students both inside and outside the classroom;
• A high school diploma or GED is required;
• Completion of sixty (60) credit hours of college coursework or an Associate's Degree, or a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment or WorkKeys Certificate of Proficiency for Teacher Assistants;
• Authorization to work in the United States is mandatory.

Assessment Requirements:
• A passing score on the WorkKeys Exams in the following areas:
• Reading: 5
• Math: 4
• Writing: 3
