Kaiser Permanente is looking for a Sterile Processing Technician Level II to join our dedicated team.

Position Overview

The Sterile Processing Technician Level II plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of medical operations by handling the decontamination, cleaning, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical supplies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and fulfill requests from various departments for medical supplies and equipment.
  • Conduct regular equipment rounds, ensuring that all soiled instruments are returned to the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) for cleaning, and verify the functionality of equipment before storage.
  • Manage inventory levels and restock supplies, including specialty carts, in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  • Order and maintain specialty medical equipment as required.
  • Disassemble, clean, and decontaminate surgical instruments following manufacturer specifications.
  • Assemble, inspect, and prepare all operating room sets, including specialty sets, in line with established protocols.
  • Operate a variety of sterilization equipment and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Utilize tracking systems to document sterilization processes and maintain accurate records.
  • Examine sterile packages to ensure integrity and safety.
  • Prepare operating room case carts based on preference cards for surgical procedures.
  • Enhance customer service experiences for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned within the scope of training and expertise.
QualificationsExperience
  • A minimum of two (2) years of recent experience as a Sterile Processing Technician in an acute care setting, or as a Surgical Technician with equivalent experience in a Sterile Processing Department.
Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Completion of an accredited Sterile Processing Program, including a minimum of 400 clinical hours, or a Surgical Technician program.
Certifications
  • Certification from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, or a Registered Central Service Technician Certificate, or a Surgical Technologist Certificate.
Additional Skills
  • Familiarity with instrument processing techniques, including decontamination, assembly, and sterilization.
  • Understanding of Sterile Processing Department policies and procedures, including infection control practices and safe handling of medical supplies.
  • Ability to distinguish colors and respond to audible alarms.
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
