Position Overview

The Marshall Operations Systems, Services, and Integration (MOSSI) contract presents an exceptional opportunity for a Systems Engineer to contribute to NASA Marshall Space Center's Huntsville Operations Support Center (HOSC).

The HOSC operates as a control center for various NASA programs and projects. It is uniquely designed to provide NASA and their Partner(s) Scientists with remote control capabilities for on-orbit ISS experiments and tests. Data generated from these experiments is collected and stored by the HOSC for future analysis. Additionally, the HOSC's systems are utilized to gather, store, and analyze ground-generated data from similar experiments related to NASA's Artemis programs.

The HOSC's infrastructure comprises several hundred servers employing virtual machine and containerization technologies. MOSSI oversees a robust data storage system utilizing tools such as Dell Isilon. Most tools utilized by HOSC customers are developed in-house by MOSSI's Software Development team, custom-designed to meet the specific needs of payload (experiment) developers.

MOSSI System Engineers are expected to gain a comprehensive understanding of the IT systems and custom software utilized at the HOSC. The selected candidate will operate within a dynamic team environment, engaging with NASA customers and users, including commercial and international partners, to capture and negotiate requirements, user stories, and operational concepts, subsequently driving those change requests through the systems engineering lifecycle. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for effective customer interactions. Strong initiative, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities are also required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate effectively with NASA customers, users, and commercial and international partners to capture and negotiate requirements, user stories, and operational concepts, and drive those change requests through the systems engineering lifecycle.
  • Work closely with the MOSSI Principal Architect and Principal Network Architect, along with Procurement, Systems Engineers, Systems Administrators, Software Engineers, System Testers, Ground Operators, and Project Leads to facilitate changes across all components of these complex systems.
  • Conduct high-level requirement assessments and facilitate detailed evaluations performed by the MOSSI technical teams.
  • Develop and maintain schedules for work components.
  • Create and/or update all documentation for design and change instruments, emphasizing attention to detail.
  • Draft vendor specifications for necessary hardware and storage systems. Review vendor quotes to ensure compliance with specific vendor specifications.
  • Perform analysis, assessments, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
  • Provide systems engineering support to the MOSSI implementation teams.
Qualifications:

Education & Experience: This position requires strong expertise in Systems Engineering, Information Technology, and Software Development. The ideal candidate will possess a BS degree or have 10 years of experience closely related to one of these fields, demonstrating proficiency in Information Technology.

Desired Skills:
  • Experience with ServiceNow or similar ITIL workflow tools.
  • Familiarity with various aspects of the systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, and documentation.
  • Experience with agile development methodologies.
  • Knowledge of SANs, Kubernetes containers, VPNs, and distributed systems.
  • Experience with DOORS Next Generation requirements management tool.
  • Familiarity with EXSI servers with VM instances, LANs, wireless networks, firewalls, Linux and Windows operating systems, Intel-based systems, etc.
