Position Overview

The role of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader is pivotal in fostering a supportive environment within primary schools. This position is integral to identifying and addressing the mental health and wellbeing challenges faced by students, ensuring they receive the necessary care and support.

Program Expansion

In alignment with the Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System, this initiative is being implemented across all government and low-fee non-government primary schools. The aim is to establish a comprehensive approach to student wellbeing, allowing every primary school to employ a dedicated leader in mental health and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enhance the overall capability of the school in relation to mental health and wellbeing, focusing on identification, promotion, and prevention.
  • Provide guidance and support to educators in recognizing and assisting students with mental health needs.
  • Develop clear referral pathways for students requiring further assessment and intervention, while monitoring their progress.
  • Implement contextually relevant programs and initiatives to promote mental health and wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with school leadership and wellbeing teams to integrate mental health strategies into school planning and processes.
  • Work alongside regional staff, educators, and external agencies to coordinate targeted mental health support for students.
  • Contribute to the school's existing wellbeing initiatives and overall leadership.

Candidate Profile

Applicants should be qualified teachers registered or eligible for registration with the relevant teaching authority, possessing experience in the specified curriculum areas.
