Job Overview

SUMMARY: The Audit Manager serves as a vital link between partners, directors, professional staff, and clients. This role is essential for overseeing multiple client engagements concurrently, which includes scheduling, staffing, and coordinating workflow. The Audit Manager is also responsible for mentoring team members and fostering relationships to drive new business opportunities for the firm.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Client Service & Technical Expertise

  • Demonstrates comprehensive technical knowledge and effectively manages fieldwork on assigned engagements in a structured and efficient manner. This includes oversight of engagement scheduling, planning, budget monitoring, and timely completion of work papers and evaluations.
  • Stays informed on new accounting standards and effectively communicates their implications to clients.
  • Organizes and plans audits, ensuring effective communication with clients to gather necessary documentation for engagement completion.
  • Conducts accounting research to address issues arising during audit or compliance engagements.
  • Ensures adherence to professional standards and identifies efficiencies within engagement procedures.
  • Takes ownership of engagements, proactively communicating status updates and concerns to the engagement director or partner.
  • Manages deadlines and expectations from both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Engages with clients to discuss questions, recommendations, and findings.
  • Prepares workpapers, audit reports, management letters, and other deliverables for clients.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of accounting and audit requirements, ensuring compliance with all regulations.
  • Meets continuing professional education (CPE) requirements for the firm and licensing standards.
  • May require travel of 20-30%, with 10-15% involving overnight stays to meet client needs.

Client Relationships & Business Development

  • Participates in the proposal process, client presentations, and marketing initiatives to enhance firm visibility.
  • Develops a thorough understanding of the firm's service offerings, identifying opportunities for additional services to clients.
  • Establishes and nurtures long-term professional relationships with clients.

Leadership & Management

  • Exhibits strong leadership skills, ensuring timely oversight of engagements and effective communication with team members and senior management.
  • Monitors workload to meet billable hour expectations and ensures efficient staff scheduling.
  • Mentors and develops team members, contributing to recruitment and retention efforts.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises junior audit staff, executing responsibilities in accordance with firm policies and applicable laws. This includes training, planning, assigning, and overseeing work, as well as performance appraisal and addressing employee concerns.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting with a strong academic record (minimum GPA of 3.0); CPA certification is mandatory.
  • A minimum of six years of recent public accounting audit experience is required, along with supervisory experience.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, along with familiarity with office equipment and computer hardware. Knowledge of audit applications and firm-specific software is essential.

OTHER SKILLS:

Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Statements on Auditing Standards (SAS), and audit procedures is necessary.

FIRM CULTURE:

Promotes the firm's culture by developing personal relationships with clients and catering to their specific needs. Ability to interact appropriately with employees, clients, and management is crucial.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This role requires regular sitting, talking, and hearing, with frequent walking and use of hands. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds may be necessary. The work environment is typically quiet.
