Deputy in Corrections Officer

**Job Summary:**
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Correctional Officer to join our team at the Franklin County Sheriff's Office. As a Correctional Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of inmates, as well as maintaining a positive and respectful environment within the facility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct Safety and Security Inspections: Conduct regular inspections of the housing unit common areas to identify and address any safety and security issues.
- Supervisory Authority: Serve as the sole authority in the housing unit, making primary decisions regarding inmate activities and behavior.
- Establish and Maintain Positive Relationships: Develop and maintain positive relationships with inmates, providing direction and coaching as needed.
- Provide Information and Respond to Requests: Use available resources to answer inmate requests, providing written responses when necessary.
- Continuously Interact with Inmates: Actively listen, demonstrate interest and concern, and respond to inmate requests while interacting with inmates in the unit.
- Familiarity with Inmates: Develop a thorough understanding of inmate behavior and patterns, recognizing changes and taking appropriate action.
- Identify and Address Problems: Identify potential conflicts among inmates through verbal and non-verbal cues, taking action to determine and address the root cause.
- Motivate Inmates to Comply: Ensure inmates understand facility rules and expectations, using positive motivation techniques to encourage compliance.
- Engage Inmates in Positive Activities: Understand and be knowledgeable of available jail programs, encouraging inmates to participate.
- Work as Part of a Team: Collaborate with fellow housing-unit deputies and other staff to address inmate management issues and strategies.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent: Possession of a high school diploma or a certificate of high school equivalence (GED).
- Valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License: Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
- Age Requirement: Eighteen (18) years of age by the time of hire.
- No Felony Convictions: No felony convictions, including those that have been sealed or expunged.
Additional Requirements:
- Corrections Officers' Course: Must successfully complete an approved corrections officers' course within one year from date of hire.
- Basic Math Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Calmness under Stress: Remain calm during stressful situations.
- Effective Interpersonal Communication: Engage in effective interpersonal communication and interaction with all types of people.
- Sound Judgment: Use sound, independent judgment within established policy, procedure, and the principles of Inmate Behavior Management and Direct Supervision.
- Report Writing: Prepare clear, concise, and effective reports and written materials.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records and files.
- Relationship Building: Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Teamwork: Work cooperatively and effectively within a team and the larger organizational setting.
- Basic Technology Skills: Possess a basic understanding of technology and computer applications and software.
- Physical Endurance: Perform tasks requiring physical endurance and agility under episodic adverse conditions.
