Position Overview
The Registered Nurse in the Operating Room is responsible for delivering direct patient care.

This role involves collaboration with patients, their families, peers, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure effective healthcare delivery.

The Registered Nurse evaluates patient needs, formulates care plans, implements interventions, and assesses outcomes in alignment with the hospital's nursing philosophy, policies, and standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to the performance standards, policies, and behaviors established by the organization.
  • Utilize the nursing process to address the specific needs of patients across all care dimensions: biophysical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and discharge planning.
  • Employ appropriate decision-making steps, prioritizing patient care and unit-related issues.
  • Engage in effective communication and collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Incorporate patient rights and nursing ethics into daily practice.
  • Follow infection control protocols to minimize the risk of healthcare-associated infections.
  • Comply with the National Patient Safety Goals set forth by the Joint Commission.
  • Delegate tasks to ancillary staff in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act.
  • Uphold the ANA Code of Nursing Ethics and the Scope and Standards of Nursing Practice.
  • Support and practice within the Professional Nursing Practice Model of the organization.
  • Contribute to the Magnet model and participate in performance improvement initiatives.
  • Fulfill competency requirements and attend mandatory training sessions.
  • Engage in staff meetings as required.
  • Implement cost containment strategies.
  • Assume Charge Nurse responsibilities as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program with current registration.
  • Baccalaureate in Nursing (BSN) is mandatory for external RNs.
  • Knowledge of contemporary nursing, medical, and health trends relevant to patient care.
  • Preferred: One year of acute care nursing experience in areas other than medical-surgical or step-down.
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association) is required.
  • ACLS certification is required for all RNs, with specific exemptions.
  • PALS certification is necessary for RNs in designated departments.
  • NRP certification is required for RNs in specific units.
  • Successful completion of departmental and unit orientation programs.

Physical and Mental Demands:

This position may involve exposure to various chemicals necessary for task performance. The role requires the ability to move freely, remain stationary for extended periods, and transport objects weighing up to fifty pounds. Adaptability to a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions is essential.

Individuals must be able to respond to emergency signals and operate equipment consistently. Concentration on detailed tasks amidst interruptions is necessary.

This role encompasses care for diverse patient populations, including neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients, as well as those with specific healthcare needs.
