Job Overview

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the nurse manager or Registered Professional Nurse, the Surgical Instrument Technician is responsible for managing the instruments, supplies, and equipment required during surgical operations. This role requires a thorough understanding of the procedures being conducted and the ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team. The technician is committed to ensuring quality patient care throughout the surgical process while maintaining strict sterile techniques.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Adhere to the performance standards, policies, and behaviors established by ATC White Plains.
  2. Execute essential functions and responsibilities in accordance with applicable health laws regarding surgical technology.
  3. Conduct nursing procedures as per organizational policy.
  4. Verify the availability of supplies and equipment prior to surgical interventions.
  5. Prepare, scrub, and assist during surgical procedures.
  6. Uphold the highest standards of sterile technique.
  7. Support the surgeon and nursing staff with post-operative care.
  8. Handle specimens with care and precision.
  9. Prepare instruments for decontamination processes.
  10. Assist in the preparation and selection of operating room cases.
  11. Follow established protocols for infection control and safety regulations.
  12. Identify and report any malfunctioning equipment promptly.
  13. Adhere to patient safety standards consistently.
  14. Respond effectively in emergency situations.
  15. Complete all required competency assessments.
  16. Participate in mandatory training sessions.
  17. Implement cost containment practices.
Education & Experience Requirements:
  1. A High School Diploma or GED is required, along with one of the following qualifications:
    1. Graduation from a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited surgical technology program and possession of CST certification.
    2. Completion of a military surgical technology program.
    3. Grandfathered status based on prior employment as a surgical technologist within a specified timeframe.
    4. Service in the federal government performing related duties.
  2. Prior experience as a Surgical Technologist is preferred.
  3. Certification from a nationally recognized surgical technologist credentialing organization is required.

  • Visual and auditory acuity to detect objects and sounds in a surgical environment.
Population Served:
  • Neonatal to Geriatric patients, including those with special communication needs or developmental delays.
  • Patients requiring isolation precautions or those at the end of life.

Salary Range:

$78,000 - $105,300 (Based on Full-Time Employment)
