Position Summary: Under the supervision of the nurse manager or Registered Professional Nurse, the Surgical Instrument Technician is responsible for managing the instruments, supplies, and equipment required during surgical operations. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of the procedures being conducted and the ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team. The technician is committed to ensuring high-quality patient care throughout surgical interventions while maintaining strict sterile techniques.
Key Responsibilities:- Adhere to the performance standards, policies, and behaviors set forth by the organization.
- Fulfill essential functions and responsibilities in accordance with relevant health laws.
- Execute nursing procedures as per organizational policy.
- Verify the availability of supplies and equipment prior to surgical operations.
- Prepare, set up, and assist during surgical procedures.
- Uphold the highest standards of sterile technique.
- Support the surgeon and nursing staff with post-operative care.
- Handle specimens in accordance with established protocols.
- Prepare instruments for decontamination following procedures.
- Assist in the preparation and selection of operating room cases.
- Comply with infection control policies and fire safety regulations.
- Identify and report malfunctioning equipment promptly.
- Adhere to patient safety standards at all times.
- Respond effectively in emergency situations.
- Complete all required competency assessments.
- Participate in mandatory training sessions.
- Implement cost containment practices.
- A High School Diploma or GED is required, along with one of the following qualifications:
- Graduation from a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited program with a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential.
- Completion of a military surgical technology program.
- Evidence of employment as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facility for at least one year within the last four years.
- Service in the federal government performing related duties.
- Previous experience as a Surgical Technologist is preferred.
- Certification from a nationally recognized surgical technologist credentialing organization is required.
- BLS certification is mandatory as per organizational policy.
- Exceptional communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Adaptability to changing situations.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to manage stress effectively.
- May be exposed to hazardous chemicals; access to Safety Data Sheets is available.
- Must be capable of lifting and transporting objects over 50 lbs and assisting patients of varying weights.
- Ability to maintain focus on detailed tasks for extended periods.
- Must possess good vision and hearing capabilities.
- Neonatal patients.
- Pediatric patients.
- Adult and geriatric patients.
- Patients with special communication needs.

Salary Range:$78,000 - $105,300 (Based on Full-Time Employment)
