Job Overview

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the nurse manager or Registered Professional Nurse, the Surgical Support Technician is responsible for managing the instruments, supplies, and equipment essential during surgical operations. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of the surgical procedures being performed and the ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team. The technician is dedicated to ensuring high-quality patient care throughout operative procedures while consistently upholding sterile techniques.

  1. Adheres to the performance standards, policies, and behaviors set forth by ATC White Plains.
  2. Responsible for essential functions and duties as outlined by relevant health regulations.
  3. Conducts nursing procedures in accordance with established policies.
  4. Verifies the availability of supplies and equipment prior to surgical interventions.
  5. Prepares, organizes, and assists during surgical procedures.
  6. Maintains the highest standards of sterile practices.
  7. Supports the surgeon and nursing staff with post-operative care.
  8. Handles specimens in accordance with established protocols.
  9. Prepares instruments for the decontamination process.
  10. Assists in the preparation and organization of operating room cases.
  11. Follows established policies for infection control and safety regulations.
  12. Identifies and reports any malfunctioning equipment.
  13. Complies with patient safety standards.
  14. Responds effectively in emergency situations.
  15. Completes all required competency assessments.
  16. Participates in mandatory training sessions.
  17. Implements cost-effective practices.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  1. A High School Diploma or GED is required, along with one of the following qualifications:
    1. Graduation from a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited program with current CST certification.
    2. Completion of a military surgical technology program.
    3. Evidence of employment as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facility for at least one year within the last four years.
    4. Service in the federal government performing related duties.
  2. Prior experience as a Surgical Technologist is preferred.
  3. Certification from a nationally recognized surgical technologist credentialing organization is required.
  4. BLS certification is mandatory.

  • Able to detect objects at various distances and hear normal sounds amidst background noise.
