Job Summary

The Student Social Media Strategist position plays a vital role in developing and implementing the university's social media strategy, working closely with the Social Media team to increase online presence and engagement. This position involves live coverage of events on and around campus, creative content development, and collaboration with other teams within Marketing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with full-time staff to assist with needs for the university's main social media accounts.
  • Be aware of campus happenings and be available to cover events and share posts while engaging with audiences.
  • Develop messaging and strategy plans for university official accounts in conjunction with the full-time social team and other marketing personnel.
  • Stay up-to-date with social trends and share ideas for improving the university's social media presence.
  • Adhere to the Brand Identity Guide policy, university web policy, and all relevant department policies.
  • Attend meetings with the team, clients, and other support departments.
  • Assist in planning and sharing ideas for communication plans for social platforms.
  • Support the team in assisting with social media and marketing approval inboxes.
Qualifications and Credentials:
  • One to three years of related experience required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Pursuing a degree in Strategic Communications, Digital Media & Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Computer competency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions and work under limited supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills, well-developed communication skills, and a positive attitude.
  • Desire to work with a team to accomplish goals and ability to think creatively and critically.
Abilities and Competencies Essential to the Function of the Job:
  • Ability to create and work within cross-functional team environments.
  • Intuitive problem-solving skills, including the ability to reason, analyze information, and apply judgment to solve routine and complex problems.
  • Regularly required to use visual skills to function in the work environment and to hear and speak effectively.
Working Conditions:

This position works in a variety of indoor and outdoor locations on and off campus, including the Marketing Department social team office in Green Hall. The student social strategist position requires flexibility and the ability to work extended hours, particularly during events like Commencement, Homecoming, and athletic events.
