About the Role

The CalPERS Account Management team is seeking a seasoned professional to lead our efforts in providing strategic oversight, consultative support, and superior service to CalPERS and participating employer groups. As the Manager, CalPERS Account - Non Sales, you will be responsible for providing effective leadership and direction to the CalPERS Account Management team and will be accountable for both short-term and long-term CalPERS programs and service objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and facilitate effective partnerships and consultative relationships with CalPERS and key stakeholders to expand opportunities for retention and growth.
  • Be responsible for retaining, providing service to, and growing accounts.
  • Negotiate and communicate benefits, reports claims costs and plan performance.
  • Manage the overall client relationship with a commitment to superior service.
  • Be responsible for account management team staff in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Apply initiative and independent judgment to resolve complex problems.
  • Foster a commitment of continuous self-improvement and team development.
Requirements

Typically, requires a college degree or equivalent experience and minimum 7 years prior relevant experience, including 3 years of management experience gained as a team leader, supervisor or project/program manager.

Requires Health Plan operational knowledge and experience; and experience managing relationships with external entities.

Requires excellent verbal and written communication, including an ability to communicate and present effectively to a variety of audiences.

Requires an active Life Agent License with California Department of Insurance: or the ability to obtain within the first 90 days.

Experience with large, multi-site and government accounts (e.g. CalPERS, Federal Employee Program, etc.) with different types of funding arrangements, including but not limited to HMO, PPO, ASO, contract and underwriting/rating knowledge desired.

Strong familiarity with the competitive market, healthcare economics, medical practices, and provider/alternative delivery systems desired.

Strategic thinker who has an eye for detail, is organized, and can manage multiple deliverables simultaneously desired.

Pay Range

The pay range for this role is: $109,120.00 to $163,680.00 for California.

Please note that this range represents the pay range for this and many other positions at Blue Shield that fall into this pay grade.

Blue Shield salaries are based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, location (California, Bay area, or outside California), and current employee salaries for similar roles.
