Job Title: Registered Veterinary Technician

Join the City of Sacramento, CA team as a Registered Veterinary Technician and contribute to the care and well-being of animals in our community.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Veterinary Technician to join our Animal Care Services team. As a Registered Veterinary Technician, you will assist licensed veterinarians in providing medical care and treatment to impounded animals, including surgical procedures and medical examinations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist veterinarians in medical care and treatment of impounded animals
  • Prepare animals for surgery and assist with surgical procedures
  • Administer medications, drugs, tests, and vaccines to shelter animals
  • Maintain sanitary conditions of medical caging equipment and facilities
  • Communicate with animal owners regarding post-operative care and medical conditions
  • Enter data and produce computer-generated reports relating to surgeries and medical supply inventory
Requirements:
  • Registration as a Registered Veterinary Technician by the California Board of Examiners in Veterinary Medicine
  • One year of experience assisting a licensed veterinarian in providing medical treatment to animals, including surgical procedures and medical examinations
  • Thirty semester units from an accredited college or university in veterinary technology, animal science, or a closely related field
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Drug Enforcement Administration licensure
Working Conditions:

This position requires working in a fast-paced animal shelter environment, with exposure to animals that may be injured, sick, or aggressive. The Registered Veterinary Technician must be able to lift, push, and pull heavy equipment and supplies, and work in a variety of weather conditions.
