Position Summary
The Healthcare Support Specialist plays a crucial role in the patient care team.

Under the supervision of the Practice Manager, the Specialist carries out specific clinical responsibilities and assists the Providers to ensure that each patient receives prompt and effective care.

The Specialist upholds strict patient confidentiality at all times.
Additionally, the Specialist may perform general clerical or administrative tasks as directed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities performed under the guidance of the provider:
1. Greet patients upon arrival and escort them to the examination room. If the patient is new, perform introductions.
2. Conduct patient interviews to confirm the reason for the visit, gather medical history, and measure vital signs, height, and weight. For same-day acute visits, obtain temperature and pulse oximetry.
3. Accurately document all patient information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) in accordance with established policies and procedures.
4. Verify and record allergies, current medications, dosages, frequency, refills needed, and preferred pharmacy.
5. Ensure all relevant documentation, results, and reports are available for the provider's review with the patient.
6. Assist the provider during patient examinations and procedures as needed.
7. Perform phlebotomy, collecting blood and other specimens, labeling, and preparing them for laboratory delivery. Document these procedures in the EHR.
8. Conduct routine in-office laboratory tests and record results in the EHR.
9. Execute routine or diagnostic tests such as EKG and spirometry, providing reports to the provider for assessment.
10. Prepare treatment rooms, ensuring they are clean and well-stocked.
11. Clean and sterilize instruments, disposing of contaminated materials appropriately.
12. Manage patient communications (telephone encounters) as delegated by licensed clinical staff or providers.
13. Prepare prescription refill requests for provider review and signature.
14. Maintain organized systems to ensure efficient workflow for patients and providers, notifying reception staff of any expected service delays.
15. Verify that the medical record number is included in the patient's demographic information. Obtain and enter the MRN from the Results system if necessary.
16. Schedule patient appointments.
17. Prepare patient referrals and authorizations for specialist and hospital services.
18. Assist in the review and preparation of Home Healthcare Certifications and other necessary documents (lab orders, diagnostics, etc.) as requested.

21. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Medical Assisting Certification
- Knowledge of medical terminology and medications
- Excellent customer service and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
- 1 year of experience working with electronic health records
- 1 year of experience in an office-based physician practice
