Purchasing Specialist

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Purchasing Agent to join our team at IKO Industries Ltd. As a Purchasing Agent, you will play a critical role in ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement of materials and supplies for our manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze market trends to assess present and future material availability and develop effective procurement strategies.
- Identify and evaluate potential vendors of materials, equipment, or supplies, and negotiate terms of sales.
- Implement purchasing and contract management instructions, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with company standards.
- Participate in the development of specifications for equipment, products, or substitute materials to meet business needs.
- Resolve vendor or contractor grievances and claims against suppliers in a fair and timely manner.
- Review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy and ensure timely delivery of purchased items.
- Administer online purchasing systems to streamline procurement processes.
- Arrange for the disposal of surplus materials and maintain accurate records of goods ordered and received.
- Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for supplies, services, equipment, and raw materials.
- Represent the company in negotiations with suppliers, both in person and in writing.
- Support inventory control of finished goods and work closely with the Maintenance Coordinator to ensure maintenance activities and spare parts procurement are aligned with business needs.
- Support plant operations with HSE audit requirements, including internal and external reporting.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in purchasing or a related field.
- Post-secondary education in Business Administration or Accounting is preferred.
- Experience with MRP systems, such as Mapics and/or JD Edwards, is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize projects and workload.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good analytical skills, including data analysis and reporting.
- Excellent data entry skills, with attention to detail.
- Solid computer skills, primarily using Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to learn new programs quickly.
