Human Spaceflight Safety Systems Engineer

Position Overview:

• Conducts comprehensive safety evaluations of both hardware and software across diverse systems for payload and experiment developers; generates safety documentation, hazard reports, and other necessary safety materials, or offers guidance for the creation of all safety-related documents.

• Employs technical and safety review methodologies, including fault tree analysis, failure modes and effects analysis, and additional techniques as required.

• Responsibilities encompass: Drafting safety assessment and hazard reports, technical data packages, and safety presentation materials for NASA safety review panels. Performing and reviewing safety assessments of new, revised, and/or modified hardware and software, including any requests for waivers, exemptions, or non-conformance reports.

Qualifications

Essential Experience/Skills:
  • 15+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with NASA flight system safety review processes
  • Direct involvement in executing and documenting human spaceflight system safety reviews
  • Familiarity with NASA organizational structure and the subsystems and components of the International Space Station (ISS)
  • Understanding of the system safety hazard analysis process
  • Knowledge of NASA Handbook 51721
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Capacity to cultivate strong working relationships with clients, colleagues, and management
  • Proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite for preparing reports, presentations, and charts
  • Experience with personal computers and standard business software
Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related Science/Technical field (Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering preferred)

Citizenship Requirement: Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain Public Trust security clearance.
