Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate design evaluations and requirements development
  • Conduct and review system/subsystem hazard assessments
  • Perform software safety evaluations and identify safety-critical software components
  • Generate hazard documentation and safety assessments, including necessary supporting materials
  • Collaborate and coordinate with internal Safety and Mission Assurance disciplines and software engineering teams

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics) from an ABET-accredited institution
  • 8-15+ years of experience with a Bachelor's degree or 6-10+ years with a Master's degree
  • Proven experience in System Safety Engineering and Software Safety Engineering
  • Familiarity with commercial/NASA spacecraft
  • Expertise in safety analysis methodologies such as System/Subsystem Hazard Analysis and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
  • Understanding of software verification testing standards
  • Knowledge of the Safety Review Process, including the creation of Safety Data Packages (SDPs)
  • Familiarity with Human Rating Certification requirements and processes
  • Experience in software safety within the aerospace sector; experience at a NASA Center is highly valued
  • Ability to thrive in an inclusive and communicative team setting, engaging with both internal staff and external clients
  • Essential: A proactive attitude and a strong desire for continuous learning

Security Clearance:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Eligibility to obtain a secret clearance if required

Preferred Skills:

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with various management levels, including presentation capabilities
  • Adept at working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while delivering high-quality results on time
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to devise innovative solutions
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Safety and Mission Assurance requirements, verification, validation, and closure processes
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal oversight, exercising sound judgment
  • Interpersonal skills that enhance productivity, foster teamwork, and maintain effective relationships with colleagues and clients

Work Environment:

  • Hybrid model: Primarily remote work with occasional meetings at client locations as necessary
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Professional interaction with coworkers, management, and clients is essential

Travel Requirements:

  • Minimal domestic travel required (less than 10%)

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods at a workstation
  • Capability to lift items weighing over 15 lbs

Other Essential Functions:

  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision and make informed decisions
  • Professional attire appropriate for the role, ensuring no safety risks are posed
