Position Overview:

•Conducts comprehensive safety evaluations of both hardware and software across various systems tailored for payload and experiment developers. This includes the creation of safety documentation, hazard reports, and other necessary safety materials, while also offering guidance in the development of safety data and hazard assessments.

•Employs a range of technical and safety review methodologies, including fault tree analysis, failure modes and effects analysis, and additional techniques as required.

•Key responsibilities encompass: Compiling safety assessment and hazard reports, assembling technical data packages, and preparing safety presentation materials for safety review panels. Engages in the assessment of new, revised, or modified hardware and software, including handling waivers, exemption requests, and non-conformance reports.

Qualifications:

Essential Experience/Skills:
  • Over 15 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with NASA's flight system safety review protocols
  • Direct involvement in executing and documenting safety reviews for human spaceflight systems
  • Familiarity with NASA's organizational structure and the subsystems and components of the International Space Station (ISS)
  • Comprehension of the system safety hazard analysis process
  • Knowledge of NASA Handbook 51721
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Capacity to cultivate effective working relationships with clients, colleagues, and management
  • Proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite for report preparation, presentations, and data visualization
  • Competence in using personal computers with standard business software
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related Science/Technical discipline (preferably in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering)

Citizenship Requirement: Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain Public Trust security clearance.
