The Systems Engineer Lead is responsible for defining and articulating specifications for server, mass storage, and network requirements in alignment with organizational strategies. This role ensures that operating systems and supporting applications are consistently updated and patched in accordance with vendor guidelines. The position involves implementing necessary utilities and maintaining applications that support operating systems, firmware, and hardware. The Lead will oversee upgrades to the technical infrastructure and program products to ensure they remain at current release levels. Additionally, this role addresses complex issues impacting operating systems, supporting applications, hardware, firmware, and networks. Mentorship and training of junior software engineers are also key responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This position leads initiatives aimed at enhancing technical support quality through data collection, process modifications, and other relevant activities.
Develops project plans of varying complexity, collaborating with business functional areas to define scope, approach, and resource needs.
Directs teams in quality improvement activities by educating, coaching, and mentoring staff on process enhancement philosophies, tools, and applications. Supports the efforts of team members to achieve common goals.
Understands the business strategy and aids in translating business requirements into strategic technical plans for Information Systems.
Creates and communicates status reports in line with departmental standards.
Proactively identifies and communicates potential issues.
Diagnoses and resolves complex problems, maintains software release levels, and performs upgrades to system software, ensuring interdependencies across systems are managed.
Formulates specifications for complex software programming applications.
Develops documentation and testing plans for intricate system software and hardware.
Determines, documents, and presents information for the selection and implementation of vendor products to meet organizational needs.
Installs and configures sophisticated operating systems, systems software, utilities, databases, and application software.
Completes and monitors work as outlined in statements of work (SOWs), service level agreements (SLAs), or project plans.
Provides technical guidance to various levels of staff and customers.
Researches advancements in hardware and software, integrating this knowledge with business operations.
Adheres to organizational and departmental safety, confidentiality, values, policies, and standards.
Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of experience in systems engineering, preferably in a leadership role within a healthcare environment.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: None required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Comprehensive knowledge of all phases of software systems programming applications.
- Familiarity with one or more of the following areas: operating system engineering, messaging, database administration, storage management, interface coding, thin client technology, and/or technical project management.
- Proficient in assessing system issues and providing management with recommendations for appropriate solutions.
- Skilled in leading and training others.
- Adept at reading, analyzing, and interpreting general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Capable of writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Effective in presenting information and responding to inquiries or complaints from employees, patients, and/or their representatives, and the general public.
- Competent in calculating figures and computing rates, ratios, and percentages, as well as interpreting bar graphs; able to apply basic algebraic concepts.
- Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Skilled in interpreting a wide variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and managing several abstract and concrete variables.
