About the Role

SpaceX is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team of innovators and pioneers in the field of space exploration. As a key member of our Falcon team, you will play a critical role in the design and development of our reusable launch vehicles, including the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop primary and secondary structures, mechanisms, and fluid systems for our launch vehicles.
  • Use advanced analysis tools, including finite element analysis (FEA) and computer-aided design (CAD), to ensure that all hardware meets or exceeds internal and customer requirements.
  • Lead design reviews and hardware qualifications to ensure that our vehicles meet the highest standards of quality and safety.
  • Serve as a technical interface with suppliers and customers to ensure that our vehicles meet their needs and expectations.
  • Own the hardware delivery timeline and success through inception, design, assembly, launch, and re-use.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, such as mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with CAD or FEA software packages, such as NX/Teamcenter or ANSYS.
  • Hands-on hardware experience performing fabrication, assembly, and/or testing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Experience with NX/Teamcenter designing parts and assemblies.
  • Experience with at least one commercial FEA or multiphysics simulation package.
  • Demonstrated ability to own hardware or systems within an integrated engineering team.
  • Analytical/scientific programming experience, such as Python or Matlab.
Additional Requirements
  • Able to work longer hours and weekends to support critical needs.
  • Willingness to travel in support of hardware test and launch.
