Job Summary:

As a Sample Handling Specialist at AmSpec Group, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and accurate handling of samples throughout the laboratory. This includes receiving, tracking, storing, and disposing of samples in accordance with industry standards and company protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Log in, track, and store samples in a secure and organized manner
  • Familiarize yourself with American Petroleum Institute (API) procedures and documents related to samples
  • Understand and comply with EPA regulations governing sample disposal and maintenance of disposal records
  • Perform tasks in accordance with the latest industry standards and practices, as well as specific instructions from the Laboratory manager and/or supervisor
  • Prepare accurate reports related to samples
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment in the retain and storage area
  • Attend monthly safety meetings

Requirements:

  • High school diploma and relevant experience in the industry (preferable)
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, schedulers, and clients
  • Ability to interpret various instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats
  • Familiarity with basic computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet programs
  • Ability to interact with office and laboratory personnel in a professional and business-like manner

Working Conditions:

The employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. AmSpec Group provides product information, training, engineering controls, and personal protective equipment to protect employees from exposure to potentially harmful levels of those materials. Employees are required to read product information, use available engineering controls, follow guidelines presented during training, and be able to wear and use appropriate protective equipment, including respiratory protective equipment, as may be required by the work environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Pass a drug and alcohol test specified by AmSpec Group
  • Pass an annual Pulmonary Fitness and Respirator Fit Test
  • Pass a physical examination by a physician designated by AmSpec Group, both before employment and at any time during employment upon request of AmSpec Group to confirm the employee's ability to perform the essential job functions of the position
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift/carry boxes weighing up to 45lbs
  • Ability to work in the presence of odors, typical of petroleum or petrochemicals, without allergic reactions or nausea when such odors are within OSHA-designated permissible exposure limits (PELs)
