Job Overview

SUMMARY
The Clinical Sample Processing Specialist I is accountable for the meticulous receipt and management of laboratory specimens designated for commercial testing and clinical studies. This role involves handling samples received by our Corporate Biobank, ensuring proper processing and documentation for both individual and batch shipments associated with various clinical research initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing the daily intake, management, and preservation of clinical study samples, including archiving relevant documentation and entering data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for electronic tracking.
  • Managing the receipt and storage of retrospective sample shipments, ensuring compliance with verification processes and accurate labeling.
  • Preparing aliquots for laboratory testing, which may involve handling various biological materials such as whole blood, serum, plasma, and tissues.
  • Maintaining the integrity of the 'chain-of-custody' for all samples procured by the Corporate Biobank upon receipt.
  • Ensuring de-identification of samples that contain protected health information (PHI) or can be linked to personal identifiable information (PII).
  • Creating and managing an inventory of legacy cohorts while adhering to specific software protocols and maintaining specimen integrity.
  • Implementing quarantine procedures for unidentified shipments or those lacking legal agreements.
  • Utilizing barcode scanning technology for efficient tracking and management of samples.
  • Responding to freezer alarms and coordinating the transfer of contents as necessary.
  • Collaborating with the Corporate Biobank Manager to optimize inventory management and storage capacity.
  • Adhering to all safety protocols and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with a preference for those holding a Bachelor's degree. A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required. Proficiency in data entry and familiarity with laboratory regulations (CLIA/CAP, GCP, or GMP/FDA) is advantageous. Strong attention to detail and adaptability to various software systems are essential.

LANGUAGE AND MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Candidates should be able to read and interpret laboratory guidelines, write reports, and work collaboratively across functions. Mathematical skills up to statistical inference are necessary, along with proficiency in using Excel for data management.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment may involve exposure to biological materials and requires adherence to safety protocols. Employees must be capable of lifting up to 25 pounds and maintaining focus on detailed tasks.
